Project Overview:

Roots Music strengthens cross-border cooperation between Estonia and Latvia by promoting traditional music and intangible cultural heritage. The project focuses on sharing knowledge, preserving musical traditions and bringing together musicians and cultural practitioners from both countries.

The project addresses challenges such as the limited availability of traditional music education, decreasing visibility of cultural heritage and insufficient cross-border cooperation in the field. It also responds to the need to preserve and transfer cultural knowledge to new generations and wider audiences.

  • Joint preparation of training programmes and learning materials on traditional music.
  • Workshops and training sessions involving musicians and cultural practitioners from both countries.
  • Cross-border meetings and collaboration between music experts and mentors.
  • Development and dissemination of educational materials (e.g. sheet music, recordings).

Expected Results:

  • Stronger cooperation between Estonian and Latvian traditional music communities.
  • Improved access to knowledge and skills related to intangible cultural heritage.
  • Wider use and visibility of traditional music in cultural and social life.
  • Long-term cross-border networks supporting cultural cooperation and heritage preservation.
