Project Overview:

The project addresses the limited interaction between Estonian and Latvian youth in the twin‑city region of Valga–Valka. Young people rarely collaborate across the border, which limits shared learning and connection. The project responds by organising joint events — including a hackathon, workshops, study trips and public activities — that bring young people together to work on shared ideas and challenges.

Project Objective

The main objective is to foster cross‑border cooperation among Valga–Valka youth by creating opportunities for joint learning, innovation and engagement. It aims to empower young people to work together, develop solutions for their shared region and strengthen long‑term connections between the two communities.

Key Activities

  • Opening event
  • 2.5‑day cross‑border hackathon
  • Joint workshops
  • Study trips
  • Final event

Expected Results:

  • Improved cooperation between educational institutions in Valga and Valka
  • New cross‑border friendships and youth partnerships
  • Youth‑driven solutions to local community challenges
  • Strengthened social cohesion through shared activities
  • High level of participation: 618 joint participations expected

Cross‑Border Cooperation Aspect

The project is fully cross‑border in both content and structure. All key activities involve youth from both Estonia and Latvia, taking place in shared Valga–Valka spaces. By promoting interactive learning and reducing language and cultural barriers, the project helps build strong, lasting connections between the two communities.
