Green Railway II

Project Objective:

The project aims to enhance the cross-border tourism product “Green Railways” by:

• Adding value to existing routes and sites.
• Developing and linking new routes and attractions.
• Improving accessibility and inclusivity for diverse target groups, including:
  • Children and parents with young children.
  • Elderly visitors.
  • People with disabilities.
• Increasing tourism competitiveness and sustaining jobs in rural regions.
• Promoting social innovation and participation in tourism development.

Key Activities:

• Implementation of 7 pilot investments focused on:
  • 3 trail sections.
  • 4 specific sites.
• Development and testing of joint solutions in the following areas:
  • Trail design, setup, and signage.
  • Physical accessibility of attractions.
  • Inclusive tourism services.
  • Improved information dissemination and educational tools.
• Enhancement of 4 sites to improve accessibility to Green Railways.
• Addressing multiple accessibility barriers, including:
  • Physical (infrastructure improvements).
  • Organizational (better planning and coordination).
  • Emotional (welcoming and inclusive tourism experiences).
• Applying a broad accessibility concept based on the life cycle approach, extending beyond support for people with disabilities.

Expected Results:

• A more accessible and inclusive Green Railways tourism product.
• Established best practices and standards for future tourism development in the region.
• Greater visibility and competitiveness of tourism services in the programme area.
• Stronger cross-border collaboration for sustainable tourism growth.
