Project Objective:

The GORSMART project aims to enhance the monitoring and sustainable management of the Baltic Sea's marine environment in the Gulf of Riga and Moonsund area. Through the development and piloting of smart floating platforms, the project will support more effective cross-border cooperation between Estonia and Latvia in preserving the region's vulnerable biodiversity and improving marine policy-making.

Key Activities:

  • Conducting an applied study to analyse the needs of various user groups.
  • Identifying and assessing existing technologies and proposing new, user-oriented technology solutions.
  • Developing a concept and preliminary design for a smart monitoring platform network in shared Estonian-Latvian sea areas.
  • Building and piloting full-scale prototypes of the platforms equipped with innovative monitoring systems and services.

These platforms will help detect pollution earlier and support balanced marine activities such as fishing, tourism, aquaculture, shipping, and the development of offshore wind energy.
