Fucus

Project Objective:

The project aims to jointly develop and implement pilot actions for the restoration of Fucus vesiculosus in the Gulf of Riga to:

• Maintain the health and longevity of its marine communities.
• Test and evaluate different restoration techniques in various bays with different environmental conditions.
• Develop guidelines for the sustainable management of wild Fucus vesiculosus resources in the North East Baltic Sea.

Key Activities:

1. Assessing the current state of Fucus vesiculosus populations in the Gulf of Riga and analyzing factors contributing to its decline.
2. Testing and evaluating restoration techniques, applying various approaches in different environmental conditions.
3. Assessing the potential for sustainable harvesting of wild Fucus vesiculosus, ensuring ecosystem health and longevity.

Expected Results:

• A comprehensive evaluation of Fucus vesiculosus communities and the factors affecting their decline.
• Tested and validated restoration methods for future implementation.
• Guidelines for sustainable resource management, supporting long-term conservation efforts in the North East Baltic Sea.
