Project Objective:

The project aims to introduce innovative methodologies for the joint management of shared fisheries resources in the Gulf of Riga. The key focus is on:

• Enhancing the protection of marine resources.
• Sustaining biodiversity in the region.
• Ensuring the economic and social well-being of fisheries communities.
• Optimizing costs in fisheries research and management.

Key Activities:

• Development and deployment of an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) as a new survey platform for ecosystem monitoring in the Gulf of Riga.
• Addressing methodological shortcomings in current fisheries research through technological advancements.
• Reducing reliance on conventional research vessels, leading to significant cost savings.
• Expanding the scope of sea surveys in terms of both time and geographical coverage.
• Increasing the collection of scientific data to support improved fisheries management decisions.

Expected Results:

• More effective and cost-efficient fisheries research through USV implementation.
• Improved scientific knowledge for better management of fish communities.
• Transparent knowledge transfer between Estonia and Latvia, benefiting scientific and fisheries communities.
