Project objective and activities:

This project addresses one of the common challenges of the territory: to strengthen the contact between the people from both sides, promote twinning activities. 

The project foresees a series of joint cultural events on both sides, in cooperation with cultural centers of the border regions (4 educational events with a concert and an informal part and 2 music festivals), in which close to 300 participants will participate. The central idea is to use the repertoire of Latvian and Estonian songs in both languages to promote cooperation. Joint singing well-known songs allows you to create a joint activity without long-term preparation and creates a strong emotional background. This experience also increases the understanding of the common historical and cultural heritage and the basic knowledge of the neighbouring culture, traditions and language. The target group of the project is active people interested in cooperation - cultural workers, members of amateur art collectives, other active groups of people (e.g. pensioners), who will spread the knowledge and experience gained during the project  to local communities, increasing the impact of the project.

This repertoire of songs has not been purposefully collected and published for practical use until now. This repertoire has been formed over time from folk songs and traditional music to pop music. The collection created during the project will be a unique innovative product, which will be the basis for the planned project activities, as well as ensure its unlimited use in other cross-border activities after the end of the project. Identification of songs and preparation of the collection (editing of sheet music and texts, publication on the Internet and on paper, recording of musical material) will be done by specialists from both sides in a joint working group.
