The project’s objective is to develop joint principles for assessment of transboundary groundwater bodies and to implement them in Gauja/Koiva and Salaca/Salatsi river basins in close cooperation between Estonian and Latvian authorities and research institutions.

The planned project activities are grouped into three general parts:

  1. Capacity building through exchange of knowledge and best management practices between project partners and key experts in other European Union countries;
  2. Assessment of common groundwater resources in Gauja/Koiva and Salaca/Salatsi river basins to improve common groundwater resources management in the long term and ensure implementation of international directives;
  3. Dissemination and outreach activities to increase the overall awareness of groundwater and connected nature protection of key actors working with groundwater assessments and locals.
