On 15 September 2018, we organized the Heritage Road Trip in cooperation with the Interreg Central Baltic Programme. The trip included four wonderful thematic routes - Coastal, Hansa, Industrial and Green. All routes led to Sangaste castle in Estonia, to celebrate the European Cooperation Day 2018 and European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
Event has been awarded the label of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, which nicely added to the fact that 5 tourism heritage projects, supported within Estonia-Latvia programme, were awarded the same label in spring 2018.
Thematic routes and the whole event was built on the routes and offers, that our projects Coastal Hiking, Green Railway, Industrial Heritage, Livonian Culinary Route and UNESCO tourism are working on. Soon these routes and offers will be available to local visitors and tourists from abroad. Location Sangaste castle, where the Estonians and Latvians met after route visits, is a partner in the project Garden Pearls.
During bus trips, the participants took part in the Heritage Quiz, which required some knowledge about planned results of tourism heritage projects or a search for right answers on the programmes' websites. In the concluding part in Sangaste Estonians and Latvians enjoyed a fantastic concert of ethnic groups of Livs, Suiti, Seto and Kihnu, which represent four ethnic regions of Latvia and Estonia.
Events served as the first introduction of the newly developed tourism routes and joint offers to around 200 participants. Many of them learned about Estonia-Latvia programme for the first time. Please see the photo galleries from all routes and the concluding part!
We are proud to continue the environmentally responsible approach at our events. This time we turned the old programme banners into an artistic installation in the honour of centenaries of the Republics of Estonia and Latvia. The material was brought by all participants of the trip. 5 volunteers from Latvia and Estonia were involved in the preparation of symbolic mosaic of the Freedom Monument of Latvia, called Milda. "Milda" was supported with many stars (originally there are only 3) and several cheerful swallows - Estonian national bird!
