The objective of the project was to develop and implement an automated online machine-translation and substitution solution that will focus on translating geographical names. The developed solution consists of a tool that will be used by the project partners for translation of their own products and offered as an internet service to third parties who require translation of graphical files consisting of geographic names.

Main activities were:

  1. Gaining a clear overview on the business needs of the target groups and the available business opportunities, including a comprehensive analysis of available data sources, that will be used by the automated translation solution and develop the design of system architecture;
  2. Developing the automated translation solution and creating a user-friendly web portal that will provide the automated translation solution as a service to the potential customers;
  3. Establish a marketing campaign that will be used to reach the target groups.

The outcome of the project - TerraLexicon translation solution - fills a real gap in the geographic solution market for companies which are preparing cartographic products for export, as shown by the continuous interest from enterprises, starting from Frankfurt book fair 2019 and ending with workshops. The project has also improved the cross-border business networks, with stronger cooperation between Jāņa sēta and Regio as an outcome of the joint development of the solution, where the combined know-how of each company served to bring a more durable project outcome.
